Our live L Type Rotifer Starter Culture contains actively reproducing Brachionus plicatilis cultured fresh by Texas Coral Ranch. It is intended for starting or refreshing a home rotifer culture and can also be fed directly to marine fish larvae, clownfish fry, corals, and filter feeders.

Why keep a rotifer culture?

Approximate density

Based on microscope sampling of our current culture, a 16 oz bottle is estimated to contain approximately one million or more rotifers. Larger sizes contain proportionally more culture. This is an estimate, not a guaranteed count. Natural density can vary between harvests.

Basic culture care

• Use clean saltwater and provide gentle aeration
• Feed small amounts of live phytoplankton or a commercial rotifer diet
• Avoid overfeeding and monitor water quality
• Harvest regularly while leaving enough rotifers to keep the culture growing

Like any live culture, it may contain naturally associated microorganisms and should not be considered sterile or axenic.
